Overview

Mixed Americano and Mixed Mexicano follow the same mechanics as their standard counterparts, with one rule added: every pair must consist of one male and one female player. This ensures gender-balanced teams throughout the event and is the go-to format for mixed doubles socials. Players still score individually, so the winner may be male or female.

How it works

  • Equal numbers of men and women are required (e.g. 4 men and 4 women for 8 players).
  • In Mixed Americano, the rotation schedule ensures every man partners with every woman once over the course of the event.
  • In Mixed Mexicano, pairings are determined by the leaderboard but always maintain mixed-gender teams.
  • Scoring is identical: rally-point scoring to a fixed total, with individual point accumulation.

Running one, step by step

  1. Ensure equal gender numbers. If numbers are uneven, consider having one player sit out each round on rotation.
  2. Generate the schedule using an app that supports mixed format. Most Americano apps have a "mixed" toggle.
  3. Run as per standard Americano/Mexicano but with the mixed-gender constraint.
  4. Consider separate prizes for top man and top woman, or simply one overall winner.

Best for

Mixed doubles social events, couples evenings, any event specifically aiming for gender-inclusive team composition.

Can you run it on ClubChamps?

ClubChamps does not run this format yet. This guide is here because it is worth knowing about - not because we can host it for you.
