No commitment, no pressure - turn up, get assigned partners, play a few short rounds, and meet other members.

Overview
A social mixer (also called a "drop-in" or "club session") is the most informal format. Players simply turn up during an advertised window, and the organiser assigns them to courts with rotating partners and opponents for short rounds. There's no formal tournament structure - the emphasis is entirely on social interaction, getting some match practice, and meeting other members. Many clubs run weekly mixers as their bread-and-butter participation activity.
How it works
- A time window is advertised (e.g. "Saturday 10am-12pm, all welcome").
- Players arrive and register with the organiser.
- The organiser assigns players to courts in groups of 4, trying to balance ability and mix genders where appropriate.
- Each round lasts 12-20 minutes (timed) or is played to 4 games with no-ad scoring.
- After each round, the organiser reassigns courts with new partners and opponents.
- Players can arrive late, leave early, or sit out a round - the format is completely flexible.
- Scores can be tracked for fun, or the event can be purely social with no scoring.
Running one, step by step
- Set a regular time slot and promote it consistently. Weekly is ideal for building attendance.
- Be present as the organiser. Social mixers need a visible host managing the rotations.
- Keep a clipboard or app to track who's played with whom and ensure variety.
- Balance the groups by ability and gender each round. Don't leave the same four people together.
- Handle odd numbers by having one player sit out each round or by rotating a player off mid-round.
- Create a welcoming atmosphere. Greet new players, introduce them to others, and check in after their first round.
- Optional: provide tea/coffee, snacks, or end with drinks at the bar. The social element is as important as the tennis/padel.
Best for
Weekly club sessions, new member recruitment, casual players, building club community.
Can you run it on ClubChamps?
ClubChamps does not run this format yet. This guide is here because it is worth knowing about - not because we can host it for you.
