Scoring

Track match results and keep scores up to date as your tournament progresses.

Overview

As matches are played, you need to record the results so the draw advances automatically. ClubChamps gives you two ways to get scores into the system:

  • You enter the score directly -- ideal when you are on-site and can record results in real time.
  • Players submit their own scores -- the result appears as pending until you confirm it, reducing your workload.

Either way, once a score is confirmed, the winner automatically advances to the next round in the bracket.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

The Riverside Tennis Club Summer Championship 2026 is underway. First-round matches are being played and results are coming in.

1

Navigate to match management

Open your tournament's management page and click on the Matches tab. You will see all scheduled matches grouped by round and draw category.

Each match shows:

  • Players -- Who is playing
  • Round -- First round, quarter-final, semi-final, etc.
  • Status -- Scheduled, In Progress, Pending Score, or Completed
  • Court -- If court assignments are set
2

Select a match to score

Click on any match to open the scoring view. If the match has not been played yet, you will see the two players and an empty scorecard.

If a player has already submitted a score, you will see their submission flagged as Pending Confirmation.

3

Enter the score

Scores are entered set by set. For each set:

  • Enter the games won by each player (e.g. 6-4, 7-5)
  • If a set went to a tiebreak, enter the tiebreak score as well (e.g. 7-6 with a tiebreak of 7-3)
  • Add as many sets as needed -- standard matches are best of 3 sets, but you can configure this per tournament

For example, if Player A beat Player B 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, you would enter three sets with those scores.

4

Confirm or edit player-submitted scores

When a player submits a score, it appears in your dashboard with a Pending badge. Review the submission:

  • If the score is correct, click Confirm to accept it.
  • If the score is wrong, click Edit to correct it before confirming.
  • If the submission is clearly incorrect or disputed, you can Reject it and ask both players to resubmit.
5

Handle walkovers and retirements

Not every match ends with a completed score. ClubChamps supports:

  • Walkover -- A player does not show up or cannot play. The opponent advances without playing.
  • Retirement -- A player withdraws during the match (e.g. due to injury). You record the partial score along with the retirement.

To record a walkover or retirement, select the match and choose the appropriate option from the result type dropdown. You can add an optional reason for transparency.

6

Track progress through the draw

As results are confirmed, the bracket updates automatically. Head back to the Draws tab to see the current state of each category:

  • Completed matches show the winner advancing to the next round
  • Upcoming matches are populated as earlier rounds finish
  • The overall completion percentage helps you track how far along the tournament is

Tips for Efficient Scoring

  • Encourage players to submit their own scores. This significantly reduces your workload, especially in larger tournaments. Remind players in the tournament announcement that they can submit results from their phone immediately after a match.
  • Confirm scores promptly. The sooner scores are confirmed, the sooner the next round can begin. Players waiting for their next opponent appreciate quick turnaround.
  • Handle disputes early. If two players disagree about a score, talk to both before confirming. Recording an incorrect result and having to undo it is more disruptive than taking a few minutes to verify.

What's Next

As results come in and the bracket fills up, you are approaching the finish line. Head over to Re-run Tournament to learn how to clone your tournament and run it again next year.
